The BETA Model is a flexible, practical, interactive, foster care educational model developed by the Executive Director. During the Orientation Meeting, an initial informational meeting with prospective Resource Families, the Executive Director provides an overview of the Beta Foster Care Program and introduces the BETA Model.
The Executive Director applies this model when conducting pre-approval training for 1 (one) to 2 (two) Resource Family applicants at a time. The pre-approval training curriculum contains state required topics, and can be customized to address the individual Resource Family applicant needs as well. Beta Foster Care is committed to pre-approval training that is not a one-size-fits-all approach but, rather, an educational experience that is individualized.
The BETA Model is reflected in the polices and procedures of Beta Foster Care. The Executive Director meets with the applicant Resource Family for the Policy Review Meeting. This meeting concludes the initial pre-approval education for the Resource Family. The Resource Family receives at this meeting the Beta Foster Care policies and documents that summarize the pre-approval training.
The BETA Model is implemented to enrich the continued education of approved Resource Families. Approved Resource Families, per state law, are required to complete annual education. Beta Foster Care provides annual training, by utilizing online resources, providing staff (customized) in-home tutorials, and approving other training experiences that meet agency standards.
The acronym BETA signifies the following:
Basic System: Objective: to help Resource Family applicants understand the foster care system, and how each person plays a role in helping foster children. This includes a review of case plan options of Family Reunification and permanency planning alternatives.
Empathy: Objective: to help Resource Family applicants understand foster care from the roles and perspectives of others in the system, with particular emphasis on foster children and their biological family members.
Trust: Objective: to develop with Resource Family applicants a trusting relationship with Beta Foster Care staff. Per the Beta Foster Care Mission Statement this trusting relationship is the foundation of working together as placement partners within the foster care system in the best interest of foster children.
Action: Objective: to train Resource Family applicants in applying practical “Trauma-Informed Care” skills. Beta Foster Care is committed to a high standard of care per our CARF Accreditation, Family Focused Treatment Association membership; and committed to implementing the Quality Parenting Initiative.
